Dumbbell Curl to Row Complex
This compound movement targets the biceps and upper back by combining a standing curl with a bent-over row. It builds unilateral strength and improves coordination between pulling muscle groups.
HOW TO DO IT
- Stand tall holding a dumbbell in each hand with your palms facing forward.
- Curl the weights up toward your shoulders while keeping your elbows stationary.
- Hinge at the hips and rotate your torso to bring the dumbbells across your body.
- Pull the weights up toward your hips, squeezing your shoulder blades at the top.
- Reverse the motion smoothly to return to the starting standing position.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Using momentum to swing the weight up during the curl.
- Rounding the lower back while hinging for the row.
- Shrugging the shoulder instead of retracting the scapula.
TIPS
- Keep your core braced throughout the entire sequence to prevent swaying.
- Lead the rowing motion with your elbow, not your hand.
- Maintain a neutral wrist position during the transition from curl to row.
