VARIATIONS
Barbell Kneeling Jump Squat
Starts from a kneeling position.
This explosive compound movement develops maximum hip power and rate of force production in the glutes. It trains the nervous system to recruit muscle fibers rapidly while transitioning from a kneeling to a standing position under load.
HOW TO DO IT
- Kneel on the floor with a barbell secured across your upper back.
- Sit your hips back until your glutes rest against your heels.
- Explode upward by extending your hips violently to leave the ground.
- Land softly with your feet flat and knees slightly bent.
- Drive through your heels to stand up fully with the bar.
- Reset to the kneeling position before starting the next repetition.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Landing with stiff legs instead of absorbing the impact.
- Failing to sit back deeply enough before the explosion.
- Letting the barbell shift or roll on the upper back.
- Rushing the reset and losing balance between reps.
TIPS
- Focus on driving the hips forward rather than just jumping up.
- Keep your chest proud and spine neutral throughout the entire motion.
- Absorb the landing with your legs to protect your joints.
- Generate maximum speed during the initial hip extension phase.
SAFETY
- Ensure the barbell is tightly secured to prevent rolling off the shoulders during the jump.
- Only attempt this on a shock-absorbing surface to reduce knee and spine impact.
- Do not hyperextend the lower back when launching from the kneeling position.
