How to do it
- Secure your feet under the pads of a decline bench.
- Lie back with your lower back pressed firmly against the pad.
- Place your fingertips lightly beside your ears without pulling your neck.
- Exhale and curl your shoulders up only a few inches.
- Squeeze your abs hard at the top of the movement.
- Inhale and slowly lower your torso back to the start.
Common mistakes
- Pulling on the head or neck with interlocked fingers.
- Lifting the entire upper back off the bench like a sit-up.
- Using momentum to swing the body upward.
- Letting the lower back arch away from the pad.
Tips
- Imagine tucking your ribs toward your hips.
- Keep your chin slightly off your chest throughout the rep.
- Focus on lifting with your stomach, not your neck.
