How to do it
- Clean the barbell to a front rack position across your shoulders.
- Descend into a deep squat while keeping your chest upright.
- Drive up through your heels to stand explosively.
- Use the upward momentum to press the bar overhead until arms lock out.
- Lower the bar back to the front rack position under control.
- Reset your core before starting the next repetition.
Common mistakes
- Pressing the bar before the hips have fully extended.
- Dropping the elbows too low during the squat portion.
- Leaning too far forward at the bottom of the squat.
- Failing to lock out the arms completely at the top.
Safety
Do not attempt this movement if you lack the shoulder mobility to lock out safely overhead.
Ensure the bar path stays vertical to avoid dropping the weight on your face.
Tips
- Drive through the mid-foot to generate maximum vertical force.
- Keep elbows high during the squat to maintain bar stability.
- Time the press to start exactly as your hips fully extend.
