How to do it
- Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.
- Hold a dumbbell in each hand with palms facing your thighs.
- Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement.
- Raise one arm straight forward until it reaches shoulder height.
- Pause briefly at the top before lowering the weight slowly.
- Repeat the motion with the opposite arm immediately.
Common mistakes
- Swinging the hips to generate momentum for the lift.
- Raising the arms higher than shoulder level.
- Locking the elbows completely straight at the bottom.
- Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears during the raise.
Tips
- Lead the movement with your elbow, not your hand.
- Keep your core tight to prevent swinging or arching.
- Avoid using momentum to jerk the weight upward.
- Maintain a neutral wrist position to protect the joint.
