Dumbbell Hang Snatch
Dumbbell starts from a hang position at thigh level.
This explosive lift develops full-body power by rapidly extending the hips and pulling a dumbbell overhead in one motion. It primarily targets the shoulders while engaging the posterior chain for speed and coordination.
HOW TO DO IT
- Stand with feet hip-width apart holding a dumbbell in one hand at thigh level.
- Hinge at the hips to lower the weight slightly below the knee.
- Explosively extend hips and knees while shrugging the shoulder upward.
- Pull the dumbbell close to the body and drop under it into a squat.
- Lock the arm out overhead with the weight stable above the shoulder.
- Stand up fully to complete the repetition before resetting.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Swinging the dumbbell away from the body during the first pull.
- Bending the arms too early instead of using hip extension.
- Failing to drop under the weight and pressing it out slowly.
- Landing with the elbow bent or the wrist unstable overhead.
TIPS
- Keep the dumbbell close to your shins and thighs during the pull.
- Punch the hand up aggressively rather than trying to muscle the weight.
- Drive through the mid-foot to generate maximum vertical force.
- Rotate the elbow under the bar quickly to catch the weight.
SAFETY
- Ensure the wrist is locked straight to prevent joint strain under load.
- Maintain a neutral spine throughout the hinge to avoid back injury.
