Dumbbell Snatch
Single dumbbell lifts from the floor centered between feet.
This explosive full-body movement develops power in the hamstrings, glutes, and quadriceps while teaching rapid force production. It trains the posterior chain to accelerate a load from the floor to an overhead position in one continuous motion.
HOW TO DO IT
- Stand with feet hip-width apart and the dumbbell centered between your shoes.
- Hinge at the hips to grip the handle with one hand, keeping your back flat.
- Drive through your feet to explosively extend your hips and knees.
- Pull the dumbbell vertically close to your body while shrugging your shoulder.
- Drop your body under the weight and punch your arm straight overhead.
- Stand up fully with the dumbbell locked out above your shoulder.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Swinging the dumbbell forward away from the body instead of pulling up.
- Bending the elbow too early before full hip extension occurs.
- Catching the weight with a bent arm instead of a locked elbow.
- Failing to drop the hips low enough under the dumbbell.
TIPS
- Keep the dumbbell touching your shins and thighs during the initial pull.
- Think of pulling the floor away from you rather than lifting the weight.
- Punch your hand up aggressively to meet the weight at the top.
- Maintain a tight core to prevent arching your lower back upon catch.
SAFETY
- Ensure the wrist remains straight and stacked under the load to avoid joint strain.
- Do not attempt heavy loads without mastering the hip hinge mechanics first.
