Alternating Dumbbell Snatch
Dumbbell alternates hands after each rep returns to the floor.
This explosive full-body movement develops hip power and shoulder stability while conditioning the grip. Alternating arms allows for sustained high-intensity output with brief recovery between repetitions.
HOW TO DO IT
- Stand with feet hip-width apart and the dumbbell on the floor between your legs.
- Hinge at the hips to grip the handle with one hand.
- Explosively extend your hips and knees to pull the weight upward.
- Drop under the dumbbell and punch your arm straight overhead.
- Lock out your elbow and stabilize the weight before standing fully.
- Lower the dumbbell back to the floor and immediately switch hands.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Pulling the weight away from the body with a wide arc.
- Bending the elbow too early during the initial pull phase.
- Failing to lock out the elbow completely at the top.
- Rounding the lower back while lifting the weight from the floor.
TIPS
- Keep the dumbbell close to your body throughout the pull.
- Punch your hand up quickly to meet the rising weight.
- Drive through your entire foot to generate maximum vertical force.
- Engage your core tightly to protect your lower back during the catch.
SAFETY
- Ensure the overhead lockout is stable before attempting another rep to avoid shoulder injury.
- Maintain a neutral spine throughout the lift to prevent lower back strain.
