How to do it
- Stand sideways next to a wall with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Bend your nearest elbow to 90 degrees and place your forearm flat against the wall.
- Keep your hand and elbow aligned vertically along the surface.
- Slowly rotate your torso away from the wall while keeping your arm fixed.
- Hold the position when you feel a deep stretch in your side and back.
- Return to the start and repeat on the opposite side.
Common mistakes
- Lifting the shoulder toward the ear instead of depressing it.
- Bending the wrist or losing contact with the wall.
- Rotating the hips instead of isolating the thoracic spine.
Tips
- Keep your hips square and avoid leaning your whole body forward.
- Drive your chest open to maximize the stretch in the lat.
- Relax your shoulder blade down away from your ear.
