VARIATIONS
Alternating Front Step Plank
Feet step forward outside the hands one at a time
This exercise targets the deep abdominal stabilizers and hip flexors by challenging core rigidity during dynamic leg movement. It builds anti-extension strength essential for maintaining a neutral spine under load.
HOW TO DO IT
- Assume a high plank position with hands directly under shoulders.
- Tighten your core and glutes to keep hips level.
- Lift one foot and step it forward outside your hand.
- Return the stepping leg to the starting plank position.
- Repeat the movement with the opposite leg.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Letting hips sag or pike upward during the step.
- Rotating the torso toward the moving leg.
- Placing the stepping foot too far across the midline.
TIPS
- Imagine dragging your toes along the floor to engage hip flexors.
- Keep your hips square to the ground throughout the step.
- Breathe steadily instead of holding your breath.
