VARIATIONS
Alternating Lunge with Overhead Reach
Reaches both arms straight overhead during a forward lunge
This dynamic movement targets the core stabilizers and hip flexors while challenging balance through unilateral loading. It improves functional strength by combining a lower body lunge with an upper body reach.
HOW TO DO IT
- Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides.
- Step forward with your right leg and lower into a deep lunge.
- Reach both arms straight overhead while keeping your torso upright.
- Push off the front foot to return to the starting position.
- Repeat the sequence immediately stepping forward with the left leg.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Leaning the torso too far forward during the reach.
- Allowing the front knee to cave inward.
- Rushing the transition between legs and losing balance.
TIPS
- Keep your core braced throughout the entire movement.
- Drive through the heel of the front foot to stand up.
- Align your front knee directly over your ankle.
