Dumbbell Sumo Squat
This lower-body strength exercise targets the quadriceps, glutes, and adductors by utilizing a wide stance. Holding a single dumbbell vertically challenges core stability while building leg mass.
HOW TO DO IT
- Stand with feet wider than shoulder-width and toes pointed outward.
- Grip one dumbbell vertically with both hands in front of your hips.
- Brace your core and lower your hips until thighs are parallel to the floor.
- Keep your chest up and knees tracking over your toes throughout the descent.
- Drive through your heels to return to the starting standing position.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Letting the knees collapse inward during the squat.
- Rounding the lower back while holding the weight.
- Lifting the heels off the ground at the bottom.
- Leaning too far forward instead of keeping the torso upright.
TIPS
- Push your knees outward to engage the inner thighs.
- Keep the dumbbell close to your body to maintain balance.
- Focus on sitting back between your legs rather than just bending down.
SAFETY
- Avoid rounding the spine under load to prevent lower back strain.
