Incline Cable Press

Low-pulley cables press upward and inward from below chest level.

This compound push targets the upper chest with constant tension from low-pulley cables. It also engages the front delts, triceps, and middle chest for balanced pressing strength.

HOW TO DO IT

  1. Set an adjustable bench to a 30-degree incline between two low cable pulleys.
  2. Lie back on the bench and grasp the stirrup handles with palms facing forward.
  3. Bring your hands to the lower chest level with elbows bent and arms wide.
  4. Press the handles upward and inward until arms are fully extended over the shoulders.
  5. Slowly lower the handles back to the start position to feel a stretch in the pecs.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • Flaring elbows out too wide instead of tucking them slightly.
  • Lifting hips off the bench to generate momentum.
  • Locking elbows abruptly at the top rather than maintaining tension.
  • Allowing the cables to pull shoulders forward during the eccentric phase.

TIPS

  • Keep your shoulder blades retracted and depressed against the bench throughout the set.
  • Drive through the mid-foot to maintain stability while pressing heavy loads.
  • Focus on squeezing the upper chest fibers together at the top of the movement.

SAFETY

  • Ensure the bench is securely locked at the incline angle before lying down.
  • Do not hyperextend the lower back by arching excessively off the pad.
