Cable Pallof Press

Arms press straight out while the torso stays square.

This anti-rotation exercise builds core stability by forcing the abs to resist the cable's pulling force. It strengthens the torso while engaging the chest, shoulders, and triceps during the press.

HOW TO DO IT

  1. Attach a handle to the cable machine at shoulder height.
  2. Stand sideways to the tower and grab the handle with both hands.
  3. Step away until the cable creates steady tension on your torso.
  4. Hold the handle against the center of your chest with elbows tucked.
  5. Press the handle straight out until your arms are fully extended.
  6. Hold the extended position briefly before slowly returning to your chest.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • Letting the cable rotate your torso toward the machine.
  • Flaring the ribs out instead of keeping the core tight.
  • Rushing the return phase and losing tension.

TIPS

  • Brace your abs as if preparing to take a punch.
  • Keep your hips and shoulders square to the front throughout the movement.
  • Drive through your heels to maintain a solid base.
