High Cable Rope Pullover
This unilateral movement isolates the latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior on one side at a time, helping correct left-right strength imbalances and improving scapular control and shoulder extension. The offset load also adds an anti-rotation demand on the core.
HOW TO DO IT
- Attach a rope to a high pulley and stand facing the machine with feet shoulder-width apart.
- Grab the rope with both hands using an overhand grip, then step back slightly to create tension with the arms fully extended.
- Keep your torso upright, core braced, and free hand on your hip or thigh for stability.
- Pull the rope down in a wide arc toward your hips, keeping a slight bend in the elbows.
- Squeeze the lats hard at the bottom, then return slowly to the fully extended overhead position.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Bending the elbow too much and turning it into a single-arm triceps pushdown.
- Leaning forward or twisting the torso to use momentum during the pull.
- Shrugging the shoulder up toward the ear instead of depressing the scapula.
- Letting the handle snap back up without controlling the eccentric.
- Rotating the torso away from the machine instead of bracing against the offset load.
TIPS
- Imagine pushing your elbow down toward your hip rather than pulling with your hand.
- Keep a slight bend in the elbow throughout to protect the joint.
- Keep your chest up and shoulders depressed, away from your ears.
- Resist the pull of the cable trying to rotate your torso; stay square to the machine.
- Match reps and tempo on both sides to address imbalances.
SAFETY
- Avoid hyperextending the lower back when pulling the handle to the hip.
- Keep the free hand supported if balance is an issue.
