Hands closer than shoulder width on the floor

Level
Intermediate
Movement
Push up · Plank / front support
Tracks
Reps only

Works

  • Triceps
  • Chest
  • Shoulders

How to do it

  1. Place hands on the floor closer than shoulder width with thumbs under the chest.
  2. Extend legs back and tighten the core to form a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Lower your body until the chest nearly touches the floor while keeping elbows tucked.
  4. Press through the palms to extend the arms and return to the starting position.
  5. Exhale during the upward push and inhale while lowering.

Common mistakes

  • Flaring elbows out wide instead of tucking them.
  • Allowing the hips to sag or pike upward.
  • Stopping the descent too high without full range of motion.

Tips

  • Keep elbows tucked close to the ribs throughout the movement.
  • Maintain a rigid plank position to prevent hip sagging.
  • Drive through the center of the palm for stability.
