Seated Leg Press

Feet rest shoulder-width apart on the platform

This compound machine movement targets the quadriceps while engaging the glutes, hamstrings, and calves to build overall lower body strength. It allows for heavy loading with minimal spinal compression compared to free-weight squats.

HOW TO DO IT

  1. Sit on the seat and place your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform.
  2. Release the safety handles and extend your legs without locking your knees.
  3. Inhale and lower the platform until your knees form a 90-degree angle.
  4. Exhale and push through your heels to return to the starting position.
  5. Re-engage the safety handles before removing your feet from the platform.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • Locking the knees at the top of the movement.
  • Allowing the knees to cave inward during the press.
  • Lifting the hips off the seat to gain depth.
  • Placing feet too low on the platform.

TIPS

  • Keep your lower back and hips pressed firmly against the seat.
  • Drive through the mid-foot and heels to maximize quad activation.
  • Maintain a controlled tempo during the lowering phase.

SAFETY

  • Always lock the safety handles before exiting the machine to prevent the weighted sled from falling.
  • Do not round your lower back or lift your hips off the pad under heavy load.
