VARIATIONS
Side Plank
Body holds a static straight line without movement.
This isolation exercise targets the obliques and deep abdominal stabilizers to build lateral core strength. It improves trunk stability and resistance to rotational forces without requiring equipment.
HOW TO DO IT
- Lie on your side with legs straight and feet stacked.
- Place your bottom forearm on the floor directly under your shoulder.
- Engage your core and lift your hips until your body forms a straight line.
- Hold the position while breathing steadily.
- Lower your hips slowly back to the floor.
- Repeat the sequence on the opposite side.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Letting the hips sag toward the floor.
- Shrugging the supporting shoulder up toward the ear.
- Rotating the torso forward or backward instead of stacking vertically.
TIPS
- Drive your bottom elbow and feet firmly into the floor.
- Imagine a straight rod running from your head to your heels.
- Reach your top arm toward the ceiling to open the chest.
