How to do it
- Sit on the machine with your back flat against the padded support.
- Place the balls of your feet on the lower edge of the platform.
- Release the safety handles and extend your legs fully.
- Push the platform up by extending your ankles as far as possible.
- Lower the weight slowly until you feel a deep stretch in your calves.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions before re-engaging the safeties.
Common mistakes
- Bouncing the weight at the bottom instead of controlling the descent.
- Bending the knees excessively, which shifts focus away from the gastrocnemius.
- Using a partial range of motion by not fully extending the ankles.
- Letting the heels slip off the edge of the platform during the lift.
Safety
Always engage the safety locks before entering or exiting the machine.
Do not lock your knees hyperextended when holding the loaded platform.
Tips
- Keep your toes pointing straight forward or slightly outward.
- Pause briefly at the bottom of the movement to maximize the stretch.
- Drive through the big toe to engage the inner calf fibers.
