Cable Standing Leg Raise
Ankle cuff on low pulley resists single-leg raise while standing
This isolation exercise targets the hip flexors to build strength for running and kicking movements. It also engages the quadriceps and stabilizing abductors and adductors.
HOW TO DO IT
- Attach an ankle cuff to one leg and face away from the low pulley.
- Hold the machine frame or lateral bars for steady support.
- Step forward with the unattached leg to create tension on the cable.
- Pull your working knee up toward your chest against the resistance.
- Lower your leg back down slowly until the hip is fully extended.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Swinging the body to generate momentum instead of using hip strength.
- Bending the supporting knee excessively during the lift.
- Rounding the lower back while raising the leg.
TIPS
- Keep your torso upright and avoid leaning forward to lift the weight.
- Pause briefly at the top of the movement to maximize muscle contraction.
- Control the descent to prevent the stack from slamming.
SAFETY
- Avoid arching your lower back excessively, which can compress the lumbar spine.
