Quadriceps Glutes Hamstrings
How to do it
- Rest a loaded barbell across your upper back and step onto a raised platform with both feet.
- Step one foot backward off the platform until the toes touch the floor behind you.
- Lower your hips until your rear knee gently touches the ground and your front thigh is parallel to the floor.
- Drive through your front heel to extend the hip and knee, returning to the starting position.
- Complete all repetitions on one leg before switching to the other side.
Common mistakes
- Letting the front knee cave inward during the descent.
- Pushing off the rear toes instead of driving with the front leg.
- Leaning too far forward, shifting tension away from the quads.
- Bouncing the rear knee off the floor to gain momentum.
Safety
Use a stable, non-slip platform under your front foot to prevent slips and ankle rolls.
Control the descent carefully to avoid hyperextending the rear knee joint.
Tips
- Keep your torso upright throughout the descent to maximize quadriceps activation.
- Drive through the mid-foot of the front leg rather than pushing off the toes.
- Maintain a tight core to prevent excessive forward lean under the bar.
