How to do it
- Stand tall with your feet about hip-width apart on a non-slip surface.
- Bend your elbows to roughly 90 degrees and relax your hands.
- Shift your weight slightly onto the balls of your feet.
- Push off one foot and lift that knee to just below hip height.
- Land softly on the ball of that foot as the other foot pushes off.
- Swing the opposite arm forward with each knee lift.
- Keep alternating at a steady, light running rhythm without travelling.
- Breathe steadily and continue for the set time.
Common mistakes
- Landing heavily on the heels.
- Leaning the torso back or hunching forward.
- Letting the arms hang or cross the body.
- Drifting forward or sideways across the floor.
Safety
Wear supportive footwear and use a stable, non-slippery surface.
Lower your knee lift or switch to marching if the impact feels uncomfortable.
Build your duration gradually if you are new to impact cardio.
Tips
- Stay light and quiet on the balls of your feet.
- Keep your posture tall and your eyes forward.
- Drive your arms from the shoulders with elbows bent.
- Keep the rhythm steady rather than fast and sloppy.
