Standing Cable Crunch
Kneeling below a high pulley pulls elbows toward thighs.
This exercise isolates the rectus abdominis by forcing spinal flexion against constant cable tension. It builds core strength and definition without requiring heavy spinal loading.
HOW TO DO IT
- Stand below a high pulley equipped with a rope attachment.
- Grasp the rope ends and place your hands beside your ears.
- Flex your spine to pull your elbows toward your thighs.
- Pause briefly at the bottom when your abs are fully contracted.
- Slowly return to the start position while maintaining abdominal tension.
COMMON MISTAKES
- Pulling the rope down with the arms instead of the abs.
- Using hip flexors to lower the torso rather than flexing the spine.
- Allowing the weight stack to slam back up between reps.
TIPS
- Imagine curling your rib cage down toward your pelvis.
- Keep your hips stationary to prevent turning this into a hip flexor exercise.
- Exhale forcefully as you crunch down to maximize contraction.
