How to do it
- Anchor a barbell in a landmine sleeve or wedge one end firmly into a corner.
- Sit on the floor facing the anchor, with the bar pointing at you, knees bent and feet flat.
- Lean the torso back to about 45 degrees and hold it under control.
- Grip the free end of the bar with both hands at chest height, arms slightly bent.
- Rotate the torso to one side and lower the bar in an arc toward that hip.
- Lift the bar back over the centre and lower it to the other hip; keep alternating for the prescribed reps.
Common mistakes
- Swinging the bar with the arms instead of turning the torso.
- Letting the lower back round as fatigue sets in.
- Rocking the hips or shifting weight from glute to glute to fake rotation.
- Letting the bar rest on the floor at the end of each rep.
- Locking the elbows and losing core tension.
- Going too heavy and turning it into a fast side-to-side swing.
Safety
Keep the lower back from rounding under load; stop the set when you can no longer hold the chest up.
Do not let the bar swing into the knees or thighs.
Check that the anchored end is secure before loading.
Tips
- Sit tall out of the lean, keeping the chest lifted as the ribcage turns.
- Drive the rotation from the ribcage and let the arms follow the bar.
- Keep the bar close to the body so the arc stays short and controlled.
- Exhale as you rotate to each side and inhale on the return to centre.
