How to do it
- Stand facing the anchored barbell with feet shoulder-width apart.
- Grip the free end of the bar with both hands at chest height.
- Keep your arms extended and rotate your torso to lower the bar in an arc toward one hip.
- Pivot your back foot as you turn to maintain hip alignment.
- Bring the bar back over the centre with control and rotate to the other hip.
Common mistakes
- Swinging the bar using only arm strength.
- Allowing the hips to rotate instead of the thoracic spine.
- Rushing the eccentric phase without control.
- Locking the elbows and losing core tension.
Tips
- Initiate the movement from your ribcage, not just your arms.
- Keep your hips square to the floor throughout the rotation.
- Exhale sharply as you rotate against the resistance.
