One-Arm Kettlebell Para Press

Kettlebell pressed with neutral grip and elbow flared out.

This unilateral push builds overhead shoulder strength and triceps power while challenging core stability. The neutral grip and elbow position reduce shoulder impingement risk compared to traditional presses.

HOW TO DO IT

  1. Clean the kettlebell to the rack position at your shoulder.
  2. Keep your elbow flared out to the side, not tucked in.
  3. Brace your core and glutes tightly to prevent leaning.
  4. Press the weight up and slightly out until your arm locks out.
  5. Lower the kettlebell back to the rack under full control.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • Leaning the torso away from the working arm to cheat the lift.
  • Tucking the elbow in like a standard dumbbell press.
  • Allowing the wrist to bend backward under the load.
  • Dropping the weight quickly instead of controlling the descent.

TIPS

  • Drive through the floor with your feet to create full-body tension.
  • Keep the kettlebell handle parallel to the floor throughout the movement.
  • Punch your hand upward rather than just pushing the weight.
  • Maintain a vertical forearm path to protect the shoulder joint.

SAFETY

  • Ensure the wrist remains straight to avoid joint strain under heavy loads.
  • Do not arch the lower back excessively when pressing overhead.
