One-Arm Kettlebell Split Snatch

Kettlebell caught overhead while dropping into a lunge stance.

This explosive unilateral pull develops shoulder stability and power while engaging the posterior chain. It trains full-body coordination by linking hip extension directly to an overhead lockout in a split stance.

HOW TO DO IT

  1. Grip the kettlebell handle with one hand and stand with feet hip-width apart.
  2. Hinge at the hips to swing the bell back between your legs.
  3. Violently extend your hips and knees to launch the weight upward.
  4. Punch your hand overhead while dropping into a lunge to catch the bell.
  5. Stand up by bringing your rear foot forward to meet the front.
  6. Lower the kettlebell under control back to the starting swing position.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • Pulling with the arm instead of driving with the hips.
  • Catching the weight with a bent elbow or soft lockout.
  • Landing with feet too close together for balance.
  • Allowing the kettlebell to swing too far forward before the drop.

TIPS

  • Keep the kettlebell close to your body during the initial pull.
  • Punch through the ceiling at the top of the movement.
  • Absorb the landing with soft knees in a stable split stance.
  • Maintain a tight core to prevent leaning away from the weight.

SAFETY

  • Ensure a solid overhead lockout before standing to avoid shoulder injury.
  • Control the descent carefully to prevent the bell from crashing into the forearm.
