Double Kettlebell Jerk

Two kettlebells punch overhead into a split stance.

This explosive compound movement develops power in the shoulders and triceps by utilizing leg drive to propel two kettlebells overhead. It trains full-body coordination and the ability to absorb force under a heavy load.

HOW TO DO IT

  1. Clean both kettlebells to the rack position at your shoulders with palms facing forward.
  2. Dip your knees slightly while keeping your torso strictly vertical.
  3. Explosively extend your hips and knees to drive the weights upward.
  4. Punch the kettlebells overhead to full lockout as you drop under them.
  5. Land with one foot forward and one foot back to catch the weight.
  6. Stand up by bringing your feet together while stabilizing the bells overhead.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • Bending forward at the waist during the dip phase.
  • Pressing the bells out in front instead of straight up.
  • Landing with both feet flat instead of splitting the stance.
  • Failing to fully lock out the elbows at the top.

TIPS

  • Keep your elbows tucked tight against your ribs during the dip.
  • Punch vertically through the center of your head, not forward.
  • Drop your body under the bells rather than pushing them up.
  • Grip the handles loosely at the top to save forearm energy.

SAFETY

  • Ensure wrists remain straight to prevent joint strain under heavy load.
  • Maintain a braced core to protect the lower back during the catch.
